3 drug peddlers arrested in Handwara, Bandipora: Police

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday said have arrested three drug peddlers in Handwara and Bandipora and recovered contraband, psychotropic substances from their possession.

In Handwara, a police party of PS Qalamabad at a checkpoint established at Shartgund Bala, intercepted two suspicious persons who attempted to evade the police party but was apprehended tactfully, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

They have been identified as Zayeem Ahmad Ganie son of Gh Mohd resident of Haril   and Mohd Hussain Bhat son of Ab Gafar resident of Maratgam. During search, 70gms of Charas like substance was recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody, police said.

In Bandipora, a police party of PS Pethkote at a checkpoint established at Pazalpora Bandipora, intercepted and arrested a drug peddler identified as Ashiq Hussain Bhat son of Gh Rasool Bhat resident of Nowpora Ward No.01 Bandipora. During search, psychotropic substance (Tramadol & Alprazolam capsules) was recovered from his possession. He has been shifted to police station where they remain in custody, police said.

Accordingly, police said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated.

“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said
