Lucknow, October 3: In a horrifying incident in the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh, a 90-year-old Dalit was first attacked with an axe and was then burnt alive for entering a Temple.
Thought the incident took place in the outskirts of the Hamirpur district on Wednesday afternoon, it came to light only on Friday after local media came to know about it through villagers who visited the district headquarters and discussed the killing with them.
According to reports, the deceased, Khimma Ahirwar went to visit the local Maidani Baba Temple (Lord Shiva Temple) along with his family to perform the 'Pind Daan' of his ancestors. The temple is situated in the Dilgaon village (the native place of Khimma) that falls under the Jalapur police circle.
owever, a local and a history sheeter, Sanjay Sharma, who is also a drug addict and an alcoholic, objected him from entering the temple and attacked him with an axe.
After Khimma fell down on the steps, he pulled him away towards the wood stocks that were kept inside the premises of the temple. Horrified by the attacked, Khimma's family members rushed out for help and before they returned back with other villagers to save him, Sanjay piled the wood on him set the stock on fire.
Khimma succumbed to injures before villagers pulled him off from the wood stock and an irate villagers handed over Sanjay to the police after a sound thrashing.
According to police records, Sanjay is a history sheeter and has over half a dozen criminal cases registered against him including those of murder and attempt to murder.
He was also released on bail a couple of weeks ago and according to the villagers, the incident took place due to the lethargic attitude of the police.
"About a week ago, he (Sanjay) also attacked me and tried to snatch money from me. I along with other villagers, also approached the police and insisted them to take action. However, the police did not gave heed to our complaint and you see what he has done", Shiv shanker, the priest of the temple said.
"We have arrested him and he has been sent to jail. I have come to know about the complaints of the villagers regarding Sanjay and would like to assure that suitable action will be taken", DSP Rajesh Pandey said.(courtesy Mail Today)
