Srinagar: Former Home Minister P. Chidambaram has suggested a new roadmap to the Narendra Modi government to restore peace in restive Kashmir.
Chidrambaram in his article to a national Daily Newspaper states that Kashmir is facing the worst political crisis in decades and Modi must adopt the new strategy to restore calm in the troubled border state.
He said that the PDP-BJP led government in state must be disbanded to pave way for the governor’s rule which proved more effective in past.
He, however, also suggested that although Governor NN Vohra proved a very effective administrator of state after the demise of former Chief Minister Mufi Mohammad Sayeed, he said Vohra should also be replaced in state as he served for a long time.
The congress stalwart also suggested Modi to initiate the dialogue with all the stakeholders “Talks can begin with civil society groups and student leaders. Eventually, talks must be held with the separatists,” he writes.
Chidambaram in his article fears that he might be brandished anti national by the right wing party for his views but maintains that he stands by what he said in past that “India is losing Kashmir”.
To pave the way for the talks, he writes that India must appoint the interlocutors.
According to Chidambram, the reduction of troop’s presence especially of army from the civilian areas and giving responsibility of maintaining law and order to local police may also help in achieving peace. But Chidambram wants the thick cover of army alongside the borders in region to thwart infiltration bids from across the border.
