JRL Calls For Strike On Saturday

Date:

Srinagar:  The joint resistance leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik has called for strike on June 2, Saturday, against the “recent increase in civilian killings, desecration of religious places , unnecessary and unjustified deployment of heavy contingents of forces around Jamia Masjid Srinagar, desecration of graveyards of martyrs, chopping off  fruit orchards at Sugam Shopian, killing of a civilian Bilal Ahmad Ganie and plight of prisoners in various jails including Tihar”.

In a statement issued to GNS, JRL appealed people to register peaceful protest against the “barbaric and vile actions of brutality”.

The leadership condemned the “hypocritical” role played by the chief minister of the state who it said has remained “a mere spectator of the atrocities inflicted on the people of Kashmir”. It reminded her of past when she used to shed “crocodile tears” at the funeral of slain youth and meeting with families of martyrs.

Terming her past political postures as a farce, JRL said, “The so-called chief minister of the state exploited the grave and grim situation created by the SOG under the shade of her predecessor. Today police force has been turned into SOG and a reign of terror has been unleashed in every nook and corner of the state. Civilians are being butchered, apple orchards destroyed, valuables looted, and honour and dignity of a common man has become vulnerable whereas graph of the human rights violations have crossed its limit.”

While taking a dig at the coalition regime, the leadership said that “occupational forces are suffering from moral bankruptcy and as of now they desecrate these graveyards and scriptures”.

“The international norms don’t permit such vile actions even with worst enemies. Taking revenge from family members of the warriors and desecrating their dead bodies is against all human, moral, religious and spiritual ethics,” the leaders said.

JRL appealed UN Secretary General and UN member countries to appoint a delegation to take stock of the volatile situation in Jammu and Kashmir. (GNS)
