Srinagar: After protest by the families of the jail inmates of Srinagar Central jail against the recent violent incidents inside the jail the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday alleged that the government of India (GoI) wants to turn the jails in Kashmir into infamous Guantanamo Bay detention centre.
Taking to micro blogging social networking site twitter Mehbooba wrote, “Prisoners are entitled to fundamental human rights & using brute force to quell protests is a clear violation. Pertinent to mention that inmates protested after alleged desecration of Quran. GoI wants to turn Kashmir into an open air prison & convert actual jails into Guantanamo.”
Mehbooba Mufti made the marks soon after the family members of the inmates at Central Jail in Srinagar staged protest at Press Enclave Srinagar against the violence that took place inside the jail earlier this month. (KNS)
