In an early morning operation on Sunday (March 8), Delhi Police detained a couple from Kashmir, who allegedly had links with the Islamic State – Khorasan Province (ISKP), from the national capital’s Jamia Nagar area, reported Hindustan Times.
The couple were identified as Jahanzaib Sami and his wife Hinda Bashir Beigh, both residents of Srinagar. ISKP is the Afghanistan-based affiliate of the Islamic State.
The report quoted senior officials as saying that the couple were in touch with senior ISKP members in Afghanistan. They said the couple were trying to exploit the ongoing protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act, and incite Muslim youth to carry out terror attacks.
“Sami and Beigh have been detained. We are in the process of completing the formalities to place them under arrest,” the report quoted a senior police officer as saying.
According to the report, Sami allegedly intended to carry out terror attacks in the country, and had also attempted to procure weapons for this purpose. He has been advocating that the ISKP expand its focus to the Indian hinterland, and not just Jammu and Kashmir, it said.(The Federal)
