Burqa, hijab constitutional right of women: Bangladesh HC

Dhaka, June 2 (UNI) The High Court on Thursday said that wearing a burqa or hijab is a constitutional right of Bangladeshi women and directed an investigation of the harassment of students in educational institutions in 15 districts of the country for wearing burqa.
A HC bench comprising Justice Mujibur Rahman Miah and Justice Khizir Hayat passed the order and directed that an investigation report be submitted within the next two months.
The order asked the education secretary, home secretary, religion secretary, chairman of the board of secondary and higher education to submit the report.
According to the writ petition said, there have been several recent incidents of students being prevented from wearing hijab in some educational institutions of the country, which is an interference in individual freedom.
