Yet, despite being successful in many fields, the women are facing numerous issues in their lives whether domestic, cultural, social, political, or economic. Modern era has created a dual role for women; one in home and other in office. Thus the fact is women often work more than men, and are more dynamic. Our society can’t accept this dynamic role of women due to which women get more exposed to domestic violence. The women in Kashmir are witnessing increased crime and violence in terms of dowry, honour killings etc. The violence is not only of intra-sex nature but of inter-sex too, which means violence committed against women is not only by men but by women too. Thus this gender discrimination has affected their minds and souls. Annually there are 1000-1500 complaints of domestic violence in Kashmir. 1422 cases of domestic violence were registered in two years, out of which 827 were domestic violence cases and 595 were rape cases. According to human rights commission militancy and militarization has unleashed a wave of violence against societal groups, classes and communities, especially against women. Since the time immemorial, the women are mentally tortured, physically abused, and sexually assaulted and only few raised voice against this exploitation of women. The graph of violence against women has exponentially gone high in the prevailing conflict in Kashmir. At so many occasions, the laws and power was systematically misused also by the men in uniform and committed heinous crimes against women.
Thus all these factors created a situation of violence against women. It seems difficult to explain, who is the criminal?
It is rightly said by ‘Hafsat Abiola’, “Peace comes from being able to contribute the best that we have, and all that we are, toward creating a world that supports everyone. But it is also securing the space for others to contribute the best that they have and all that they are.”
We should put our hands together against this discrimination of women.
