Three-day wet spell to begin from Wednesday

Srinagar: The air surface continued to remain affected for the fourth consecutive day as there has been no letup from the dense fog that engulfed Kashmir from last couple of days. However, the local Meteorological (MeT) department here has predicted significant improvement in prevalent situation from Dec 11.
According to the wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the night temperature in Srinagar has increased as compared to yesterday. MeT officials said that Srinagar on Sunday recorded the coldest night of the season at minus 4.0 degrees Celsius while the temperature has increased significantly with temperature settling at minus 2.9 degree Celsius.
MeT spokesman said that the night temperature across Kashmir would go further up in the coming days. “The night temperature has started increasing and it will settle close to normal from now onwards,” he said.
However, a dense canopy of continued in Kashmir on Monday, affecting the air traffic for fourth consecutive day, leaving the passengers distressed.
The smoggy weather condition is also giving tough times to the commuters across Kashmir as the visibility on the roads also remained less.
“There is a possibility of rains and snow across Kashmir from December 11 to December 13. The main activity would likely occur on Dec 12 and 13,” Deputy Director MeT, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad said.
He said that there will be significant improvement in the smoggy weather conditions from tomorrow, adding that as compared to yesterday, the situation has improved a lot.
Ahmad said that the wet spell expected in the Valley would put an end to the smoggy situation. He added that following the three-day-long wet spell, there will be significant improvement in the weather conditions from Saturday.
Meanwhile, officials in the Airport said that all the flights scheduled for today have been cancelled. “The decision for three flights was put on hold, but later the flights were cancelled due to the less visibility,” they said.
Officials further said that almost all the flights from last four days to and from Srinagar have been cancelled, adding that the flights are expected to be made operational only after the weather conditions improve.
Meanwhile, Zareef Ahmad Zareef, a prominent historian told KNO that it is for the first time in last 70 years that the fog with such intensity is being witnessed. “The fog could earlier be seen on the rooftops of our houses, but it is for the first time that it has almost entered into our rooms and houses,” he said.
Zareef also added that such intensity of the fog is only because of deforestation and fiddling with the nature. (KNO)
