Amit Shah launches FCRA 2.0 Portal, e-OCI system to streamline services

Date:

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday launched the FCRA 2.0 portal and the e-OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) system to simplify services and enhance transparency.

According to the Union Home Ministry, the FCRA 2.0 portal fully digitises applications, renewals, annual returns and other services under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA). The platform, hosted on the National Government Cloud (Meghraj), features Aadhaar-based authentication, e-sign, integrated dashboards and OCR-based document analysis to improve compliance, verification and monitoring.

The ministry said nearly 14,500 active FCRA organisations currently use the system, with around 15,000–20,000 applications and 17,000 annual returns processed annually.

The newly launched e-OCI system enables applicants to complete the entire Overseas Citizen of India registration process online, including document submission and digital issuance of OCI cards.

The government has also removed the requirement to reissue OCI booklets after a new passport is obtained post the age of 20, with cardholders now only required to update their passport details online.(KINS)
