Sopore: Massive clashes erupted in old town areas of Sopore Jamai Masjid locality and Rahim Shab area, between protesters and security forces on Friday.
Soon after the Friday prayers, Masked youth came on roads and resorted to heavy stone pelting on security forces in Jama Masjid area and the forces retaliated by lobbing teargas to disperse them, triggering clashes.
Witness said that the Police and Paramilitary forces in the area retaliated by lobbing tear smoke shells, and Sound grenades to disperse the stone throwing youths
Meanwhile, Sopore observed a complete shutdown on Friday on the call of joint resistance leadership. Most of the shops, fuel stations and other business establishments remained closed due to the strike. No injuries were reported so far.
