CM orders probe into Bantalab Jammu bridge collapse that killed three workers

J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday ordered a thorough inquiry into the Bantalab bridge collapse in Jammu that claimed three lives, directing officials to ascertain the cause of the accident and fix responsibility for any lapses.


Omar also expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of three workers.


The incident occurred on Friday when a portion of an under-construction bridge near Thathar in the Bantalab area collapsed, burying four labourers under the debris. The bodies of three of the workers were recovered in the early hours of Saturday, while one labourer was rescued alive.


In a message of condolence, the Chief Minister extended heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families and prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls. He also wished speedy recovery to the injured.


The Chief Minister has directed that a thorough inquiry be conducted to ascertain the cause of the collapse.


According to reports, a portion of a small bridge collapsed when workers were carrying out repair work on a retaining wall near the bridge, burying the men.
