CM, others push for JKCCE postponement as age-relaxation decision pending

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and several J&K leaders on Saturday urged the JK Public Service Commission (JKPSC) to postpone the Jammu and Kashmir Combined Competitive Examination (JKCCE) citing mounting uncertainty caused by the pending approval of age relaxation for aspirants.


The examination is scheduled for tomorrow and candidates get selected for the prestigious J&K Administrative Service, the J&K Police Service and the J&K Accounts Service.


In a post on X, Chief Minister expressed deep concern over the travel chaos caused by the ongoing airline issues, compounded by the uncertainty resulting from Lok Bhavan’s delay in approving age relaxation, a provision granted multiple times in the past.


“He urged JKPSC to take note of the unprecedented stress on aspirants and consider postponing the exam in the interest of fairness and equal opportunity for all,” the CM’s office said.


Peoples Democratic Party chief and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said aspirants of the are caught in a tussle between the LG and the CM.


“In this freezing cold, they are out on the streets asking for nothing more than basic fairness -age relaxation and a reasonable exam schedule,” she said, while urging LG and CM to to step in and resolve the issue without any further delay.


CPI(M) Central Committee Member and MLA M Y Tarigami said the proposal to enhance the upper age limit for JKAS aspirants has been forwarded to Raj Bhavan for approval, even as the examination is scheduled to commence tomorrow.


“Conducting the test while such a crucial decision is still pending places aspirants at a clear disadvantage.

Moreover, many candidates travelling from outside J&K are stranded due to flight cancellations. The examination must be deferred until the approval process is duly concluded,” he said.


On Friday, J&K People’s Conference president and Handwara MLA Sajad Lone said the government has in its typical quixotic style subjected aspirants to unprecedented miseries mired in ambiguities.


Lone also pointed out that the average upper age limit in all-India open merit is 38 years, while in J&K it stands at 32.
