The Delhi Police issued a summons on Monday to Congress leaders in Telangana and its social media handlers regarding fake videos about Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
According to party sources, Congress official spokespersons Asma Thasmeen, party Social Media In-charge Manne Satheesh, as well as Congress leaders Naveen and Shivakumar, received notices from the Delhi Police.
Additionally, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was reportedly served a notice as well.
The notices instructed them to appear before the Delhi Police with their mobile phones on May 1. Allegedly, the Delhi Police accused the Chief Minister of posting a morphed video of Amit Shah in a tweet (X).
During his recent election campaign in Telangana, Amit Shah announced BJP’s intention to abolish what they deemed unconstitutional Muslim reservations if they came to power. He also assured the restoration of rights to SC, ST, and OBC communities.
However, certain individuals distorted Shah’s speech and edited it to suggest the abolition of reservations for SC, ST, and OBC categories, leading to the video going viral on social media platforms. BJP expressed displeasure over the video’s circulation and filed a complaint with the police.
The Union Home Ministry also responded to the fake video, prompting the Delhi Police to register an FIR based on the Home Department’s complaint.
