EOW Kashmir files chargesheet against four in Rs 15 lakh cheating case

Date:

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch J&K Thursday filed a chargesheet against four persons in connection with a Rs 15 lakh cheating case, officials said.

The chargesheet was filed before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar, in a 2022 FIR registered under Sections 420 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The accused have been identified as Mohammad Amin Bhat, a resident of Khanyar, Srinagar; Khalid Hussain Khan of Gasiyar Hawal, Srinagar; Anil Kumar Maheshwari of Satiya Nagar, Jhotwara, Jaipur, Rajasthan; and Shashank Kumar a resident of Uddai City, Pallapurram-2, Modipurram, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.

According to the investigation, the case stemmed from a complaint alleging that Mohammad Amin Bhat, in connivance with Khalid Hussain Khan, Area Sales Manager, and Anil Kumar Maheshwari, Regional Sales Manager of M/s Assured Agro Food Industries, induced the complainant to deposit Rs 15 lakh as security for the supply of cooking oil.

The accused allegedly represented that the firm was a manufacturer of cooking oil and assured the complainant that the stock would be supplied within a week. However, no stock was supplied despite the payment, the investigation found.

During the probe, the EOW established that the accused persons, acting in conspiracy, cheated the complainant on the pretext of supplying mustard oil.

Enquiries conducted with the Registrar of Companies, Rajasthan, further revealed that no company under the name of M/s Assured Agro Food Industries was registered, officials said.

The investigation also brought to light the alleged involvement of Shashank Kumar of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, who was purportedly presented as the owner of the company.

After completion of the investigation, the charge-sheet has been presented before the competent court for judicial proceedings, officials said.
