[04/02, 6:32 pm] Mushtaq Mamu: Sumo drivers resort to overcharging in Kangan area, request authorities for help
People living in rural areas of Ganderbal District have accused transporters of charging extra fare from passengers against approved rate list.
Several people living in rural areas of Ganderbal district from Gund, Thune, Mamer Kullan, Ganiwan and other remote areas complained of overcharging by Sumo drivers on Kangan-Kullan route.
They said that the drivers charge rates that are far more than the fare fixed by the government.
“It seems the Government has given free hand to transporters to fleece the passengers,” said locals
Passengers said they are charged arbitrarily for traveling in Tata Sumos on the pretext that state Government has hiked the fare.
The aggrieved passengers castigated the state government for subjecting them to inconvenience, adding that transporters mostly Sumo drivers plying their vehicles on said road are blackmailing the poor passengers who have been left with no other chance except to pay the fare as per the demand of the driver of the vehicle.
In addition to that most drivers whose vehicles ply on the road are below 18 and therefore have no licences besides that drivers often misbehave with passengers especially females
They requested ARTO Ganderbal to look into the matter and take action against the drivers. (PTK)
