The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast an active monsoon spell across northwest India, with heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds expected in several states and union territories over the coming week.
According to the IMD’s latest All India Weather Summary and Forecast Bulletin, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab are likely to experience isolated to scattered rainfall from July 24 to 26, followed by fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity between July 27 and 30.
The weather department has predicted isolated heavy rainfall over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on July 25. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places during July 27-30. Punjab is also expected to receive heavy rainfall on July 25, followed by heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations during the same period.
For Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad, the IMD has forecast fairly widespread to widespread rainfall between July 24 and 30. The region is also likely to witness isolated thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 30-40 kmph, reaching up to 50 kmph in some areas. Heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places on July 24 and again during July 27-30.
Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are also likely to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall during the period. The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall over both states from July 24 to 26, while heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places is expected between July 27 and 30. Uttarakhand may also witness thunderstorms and lightning during this period.
In Rajasthan, the weather office has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall, with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places over East Rajasthan on July 24. West Rajasthan is likely to receive heavy rainfall during July 25-26, along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph and occasionally up to 50 kmph.
The IMD forecast indicates increased monsoon activity across northwest India till July 30, with several areas likely to witness intense rainfall and adverse weather conditions.
