Police says “verifying its veracity, seems doctored”

Srinagar: A Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant, Umar Majeed alias Hanzala posing for a photograph in the commercial hub Lal Chowk has went viral on social media here on Thursday evening.

 The picture went viral days after Hizb claimed to hold a meeting in Srinagar on November 21 (Wednesday) here, challenging the forces to stop them from holing a meet.

However, barely a day after the reported meeting of Hizb in Srinagar, a picture has went on social media in which a Hizb commander, Umar Majeed alias Hanzala could be seen posing for a photograph near the famous Clock Tower (Ganta Ghar) here.

 Moreover, Hizb has reportedly claimed that Umar Majeed, LeT commander was the main operator of outfit’s command council meeting held in Srinagar on 21 Nov.

 Meanwhile, a  top police official told KNO that the picture seems doctored, saying that they are verifying the authenticity of the picture. A top police officer said that police is verifying the authenticity of the picture.

However, he said that the picture seems doctored as in edited pictures, the subject is being placed usually in the corner of the photograph, which is quite visible in thee picture.

It worth to mention here that Jammu and Kashmir Police in May 2017 had announced a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh for information on Umer Majid, the then suspected Hizbul Mujahideen militant responsible for the killing of seven people including five policemen at Kulgam in South Kashmir. Umer has joined the militant ranks in the year 2016 as per the reports.(KNO)
