India on Tuesday has officially confirmed that China has made incursions into the Ladakh region. Union defense minister Rajnath Singh said that a ‘sizeable’ number of Chinese troops have moved into the eastern Ladakh region and that India has taken all the necessary steps to deal with the situation.

After over three month standoff between China and India at Ladakh heights, it is for the first time that India has officially confirmed Chinese incursion. Singh was speaking to national news channel CNNnews18 and said that the 16 Corps Army commander based in Leh is scheduled to meet the army commander of his level from China at LAC meeting point on June 6 in an attempt to defuse the prevailing crisis.

“The two army commanders from India and China are scheduled to meet on June 6 at the meeting point in LAC. It is an effort to resolve the issues between the two sides.  However, India will not back off and has taken all the necessary measures,” he said.

Earlier, the BJP’s national general secretary Ram Madhav had said that India is exploring diplomatic channels to defuse the tensions with China. He had said that the talks at the military level were not progressive. Both the countries have mobilized the troops, artillery, and heavy weapons following China’s refusal to back off from the perceived Line of Actual Control following its incursions in Galwan Valley and Pangong Tso. Singh, however, urged that China should think seriously to get the issue resolved.
