The J&K’s Anti-Corruption Bureau’s Jammu wing on Thursday arrested two suspects, including a revenue official, in a bribery case.
An official spokesperson said a case under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and other relevant sections was registered against Ganderab Singh, a patwari (revenue official), in Udhampur, and Kuldeep Kumar, a guard, for demanding and accepting illegal gratification from a complainant.
“The accused public servant demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant for correcting his name in the revenue record,” said the spokesperson.
He said the complainant did not want to pay up and approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau for taking legal action against the accused public servant.
On receipt of the complaint, a discreet verification was conducted, which corroborated the demand for bribe by the public servant. A case was registered and investigation was taken up.
Both suspects were caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses, the spokesperson said.
The accused were arrested by an ACB team and the bribe money was recovered from them. Further investigation is going on.
