J&K govt suspends two doctors over alleged medical negligence

The Jammu and Kashmir government has suspended two doctors and sealed an operation theatre of a private hospital in north Kashmir’s Sopore sub district following a case of alleged medical negligence.

According to a government order, Dr. Anjum Nazir, Consultant Gynecologist at Sub District Hospital Sopore, and Dr. Tariq Ahmad Dar, Medical Officer (Diploma in Anesthesia) at District Hospital Bandipora have been suspended with immediate effect . They have been attached to the Directorate of Health Services, Jammu, until further notice.

“Pending enquiry into the incident that occurred on 03.02.2025 at Hakeem Sonaullah Hospital, Sopore and to ensure a fair and impartial investigation while maintaining the integrity of the healthcare system, the two doctors are placed under suspension with immediate effect and shall remain attached with Directorate of Health Services, Jammu till further orders,” the government order read.

Both the doctors have also been prohibited from engaging in any form of private medical practice across Jammu and Kashmir.

The government has also sealed the operation theater of Hakeem Sonaullah Hospital, Sopore, until the completion of the inquiry.

There were allegations that on February 3, a woman who was under treatment at Hospital had to undergo an ear surgery. However, in the absence of her designated doctor, another doctor allegedly carried out a hysterectomy instead.
