J&K Legislative Assembly constitutes 3 house committees

The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Thursday passed motion for constituting three key House committees and passed key appropriation bills, marking a significant step in strengthening legislative oversight and financial governance in the union Territory..


Earlier, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah moved motion for the election of eleven members each to the Committee on Public Accounts, the Committee on Estimates, and the Committee on Public Undertakings, in accordance with Rules 344, 346 and 349, respectively, of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.


The tenure of these committees will extend up to March 31, 2027.


The motions were subsequently put to vote by Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather and were passed by the House through a voice vote.


Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly also passed three key Appropriation Bills during the ongoing Budget Session of the House.


Earlier, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah moved the bills for consideration and passing.


The bills include: “A Bill to authorize payment and appropriation of certain further sums from and out of the Consolidated Fund of the union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir for the services of the financial year 2025–2026” (L.A. Bill No. 04 of 2026).”


Another Bill that was passed authorizes payment and appropriation of certain further sums from and out of the Consolidated Fund of the union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir for the services of the financial year 2025–2026” (L.A. Bill No. 06 of 2026); and “A Bill to authorize payment and appropriation of certain sums from and out of the Consolidated Fund of the union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir for the services of the financial year 2026–2027” (L.A. Bill No. 05 of 2026).
