J&K Police arrest four drug peddlers with contraband substances in Kashmir

Police have arrested four drug peddlers in separate incidents and recovered contraband substances from their possession in Kashmir valley.

Police on Monday said a Police team established at a checkpoint at Khudwani Byepass in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district intercepted a suspicious person.

After his search, 2.5 kilograms of Cannabis Husk-like substance filled in the bag was recovered from his possession.

The accused has been identified as Mohd Amin Bhat son of Mohd Abdullah Bhat resident of Shamsipora, Bijbehara.

Similarly in Budgam, a Police party of Police Station Beerwah at a checkpoint established at Rankipora, intercepted a suspicious person who on seeing the Police party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully.

He has been identified as Mohammad Saleem Shah, a resident of Pati Sail Beerwah.

Both the accused have been arrested and shifted to their respective police stations where they remain in custody. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated.

Police said in continuation of its drive to eradicate the menace of drugs it arrested two drug peddlers during checking at Nagesharan crossing in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

They said a motorcycle which was coming from Harmain towards Shopian, was stopped for checking and upon thorough search, a contraband substance like Charas powder was recovered from the first-aid tool kit of the motorcycle.

The pillion riders were identified as Mohammad Lateef Malik a resident of Bongam, Shopian and Tauseef Mushtaq of New Colony, Largam.

A case, under relevant Sections of the NDPS Act, has been registered at Police Station Shopian.

Further investigation is underway to unearth the forward and backward linkages of the arrested individuals.
