The Lok Sabha was adjourned till 12 noon today following an uproar by opposition members over several issues, prominently the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Speaker Om Birla expressed his displeasure at the disruptions, emphasizing that such behavior is inappropriate and hampers parliamentary proceedings.
“Disrupting the proceedings of the House is not appropriate,” Speaker Birla said. Despite his appeal for calm, the opposition continued their protest, compelling the Speaker to adjourn the House.
Meanwhile, members of the INDIA bloc, led by Congress, staged a protest at the Makar Dwar in Parliament House, denouncing the Election Commission’s SIR exercise. They alleged the revision process has caused over 20 deaths and widespread distress among election officials and voters.
“We, the INDIA bloc MPs, protested against this flawed and rigged SIR process at the Makar Dwar this morning. Over 20 lives have been lost, yet the Modi government refuses to allow any discussion on this in Parliament!” said Congress leader K C Venugopal.
The protest and disruptions highlight mounting opposition concerns about the handling of the electoral roll revision and its human cost, setting the stage for a potentially contentious Winter Session.
