Actor Madhuri Dixit is set to make a strong mark in the OTT space with her upcoming series ‘Mrs. Deshpande.’ Directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, the show will premiere on JioHotstar on December 19.
Set against a backdrop where nothing is as it seems, ‘Mrs. Deshpande’ unfolds in a Mumbai shaken by a series of murders mirroring the style of a long-imprisoned serial killer. With no clear leads, the police reluctantly seek help from the original perpetrator, an outwardly gentle, unassuming woman who harbors a much darker secret.
As hidden histories and quiet betrayals emerge, tension builds through the most subtle moments, according to a press note.
The trailer was unveiled in Mumbai, with Madhuri Dixit, director Nagesh Kukunoor, and co-star Priyanshu Chatterjee in attendance.
Jiohotstar posted the trailer on Instagram writing, “Kabhi kabhi killer ko pakadne ke liye, killer ki hi madad leni padti hai! Hotstar Specials: Mrs. Deshpande Streaming from 19 December only on JioHotstar.”
The trailer opens with Madhuri Dixit softly singing Bholi Si Surat before abruptly murdering someone, setting an eerie contrast. The next scene shows her behind bars, remarking, “I am inside, so that means someone is copying my style.”
This moment establishes the unsettling tone of Mrs Deshpande, centered on a woman with an innocent face and a perilous past.
In the series, Madhuri portrays ‘Mrs Deshpande,’ a convicted serial killer serving a 25-year sentence. When a new murderer begins replicating her crimes, the police turn to her for insights.
The show, an official adaptation of the French series ‘La Mante,’ blends psychological tension with deep emotional drama.
‘Mrs Deshpande’ agrees to assist the investigation, but only if she can work alongside her estranged son, now a detective. Their uneasy partnership forces them to confront painful memories, unresolved rifts, and secrets long kept hidden.
The narrative explores their fractured relationship, the unfolding investigation, and the stark contrast between Mrs Deshpande’s gentle “bholi si surat” exterior and the chilling violence buried beneath it.
Themes of identity, trauma, and the burden of a dark legacy run throughout the series.
The cast features Madhuri Dixit-Nene in the lead role, with Siddharth Chandekar expected to portray her son and Priyanshu Chatterjee appearing in a key supporting role.
Produced by Applause Entertainment and directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, Mrs Deshpande is slated to premiere on JioHotstar on December 19, 2025.
