Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has highlighted the growing depth of Tehran’s strategic alignment with Moscow, stating that ongoing regional upheaval after the US-Israel attack on Iran underscores the strength of bilateral ties.
Speaking after high-level engagements in St Petersburg, Araghchi said he was “pleased to engage with Russia at the highest level as the region is in major flux,” adding that recent developments have “evidenced the depth and strength” of the Iran–Russia partnership. He noted that as cooperation expands, Tehran remains “grateful for solidarity” and welcomes Moscow’s continued support for diplomatic efforts.
The remarks followed meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, held against the backdrop of heightened tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, alongside stalled negotiations in the region.
Putin praised the Iranian people for “bravely and heroically” defending their sovereignty and expressed confidence that stability would return.
He also affirmed that Russia would take necessary steps to safeguard the interests of Iran and other regional states while working toward restoring peace. Lavrov described his discussions with Araghchi as “useful.”
Araghchi, concluding the final leg of his regional tour, reiterated that Tehran-Moscow relations would continue to strengthen, describing them as a “strategic partnership.”
He also condemned an unprovoked “war of aggression” by the United States and Israel, and criticised the silence of some countries in the face of alleged violations and coercive policies.
Referring to mediation efforts by Pakistan, Araghchi said inconsistent positions, escalating rhetoric, and repeated breaches of commitments by Washington have hindered diplomatic progress.
He warned that such double standards risk broader consequences for the international community.
Tehran’s statement shows its effort to consolidate support from Moscow as geopolitical instability intensifies across West Asia, with Russia positioning itself as a key partner in countering unilateralism and advancing a multipolar global order.
