Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India retained the forte at Race course again with its landslide victory in the recently held general elections.
Even though the pollsters had already predicted the return of BJP in power, what threw this election surprises on ground was the verdict of people. It was a complete sweep this time by the BJP and leaving the existence of regional political dispensations under threat.
The Congress, main political party of India who ruled over for decades the country was seen totally on back foot. Even after five years, it failed to stop the Modi wave.
People of India which is world’ second largest democracy completely reposed the faith and trust in Modi and all the BJP’s political opponents accepted the verdict.
Polestars attribute many factors to Modi’s success in these elections. But the important thing observers noticed was that Congress led by its chief Rahul Gandhi failed to catch the Modi on his wrong foot, instead kept countering his slogans.
Modi as an excellent marketing manage systematically sold the Balakote aerial strike, surgical strike as India’s tough response to Pakistan in Kashmir. Instead in same circumstances when Mumbai terror attack took place in 2008, Congress played a very defensive role.
The victory of BJP might have come with many reasons but what is more important question now how Modi is dealing with its neighbours especially Pakistan and China.
The Pakistan Prime minister Imran Khan after knowing Modi is retaining the crown in India hoped for the improvement in relations and extended his hand of friendship. Even the foreign ministers of the two countries Sushma Swaraj and Shah Mehmood Qureshi also had an informal meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation of Organizations (SCO).
However, amid this hope some see the bleak future for talks and anticipate more trouble for the Pakistan under Modi’s India. The Pakistan’s senator Sherry Rehman said that Modi’s return to the power means troubling neighbour for her country.
These are all the observations and speculations. What is more important to understand by the two countries that they cannot live in the environs of hostility for ever? The issues pending between the two neighbours for a long time must be addressed amicably.
Tough postures can save us timely from the situations but cannot guarantee the dignified exit from the sustaining troubles. Modi must realize that its tough position towards Pakistan can only push the country on back foot temporarily which presently is fighting its own economic issues. Once the country’s economy is back on rails and the political stability sustains, it will again turn to India.
So for the lasting peace and stability in the region Modi has a bigger role to play. He must give chance to Imran Khan who looks much sensible and sincere in addressing the issues between the two countries for the larger stability in region.
The recent report suggesting that he locked down the militant offices at Muzaffarabad is a positive sign for India. This is a rare step that any elected government in Pakistan took except former president Pervez Musharraf against the jihadi groups on its soil. Khan’s sincerity and committed towards peace deserves a chance
