Srinagar: Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the first non-Congress leader to serve a full term in power, died on Thursday at the AIIMS where he had been undergoing treatment for a kidney ailment since June.

Though BJP is ‘unpopular’ in Kashmir for her anti-Kashmir and anti-Muslim policies, yet majority of the netizens from Valley expressed grief over the death of Vajpayee and described him as a ‘leader with human heart.’

“Vajpayee held the hand of a common Kashmiri while the present BJP Prime Minister believes in hand-twisting. Vajpayee was keen to resolve Kashmir issue but a politician from Valley ditched him by casting vote against him in the Parliament. Had he would have served India for five more years, Kashmir would have been a closed chapter,” wrote one Sajad Sofi on face book.

Another netizen Muhammad Abbas wrote that he is really pained with the death of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. “Though he started his politics on communal lines but as they say it is the ‘end’ that matters. Vajpayee was eager to give respite to the people of Kashmir. It was he who started LoC Bus service. It was he who started Cross LoC Trade. He went to Lahore to create conducive atmosphere in the sub-continent. He was brainchild of Agra Summit.”

Very few netizens from Kashmir criticized him and his party but overall majority of the people hailed him and described him as the best leader of a ‘communal’ party. “He was the right man in the wrong party. Yet, he wielded so much authority. Vajpayee was the real friend of people of Kashmir and he wished to see Kashmir issue getting resolved during his life time,” wrote Ajaz Ahmed.

‘With the death of Vajpayee, Insaniyat and Jhamooriyat died in India,” wrote Rouf Iqbal. (CNS) Mourn Mourn Mourn
