Srinagar: Felicitating the Muslim Ummah and the Muslims of Jammu and Kashmir on the sacred occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani made a fervent appeal to people to maintain austerity and high spirits of the real Islamic values while celebrating the festival.
“Such festivals provide occasions to share the best moments of joy with the destitute and needy brethren of our society,” Geelani said in a statement issued to GNS.
“We as the true Muslims should try our level best to symbolize the spirit of sacrifices in our day to day life for the good of the humanity,” he said.
He termed the “random” incarceration of resistance leaders of Jammu and Kashmir on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha as a “mark of tyranny on the face of India”.
He expressed his grave concern over the “sheer lawlessness” prevailing in Jammu and Kashmir and condemned the slapping of Public Safety Act on Mohammad Yousf Falahi, Mohammad Hussain Waggay, Zahoor Ahmad Bhat and others.
“Most of the incarcerated leaders were arrested during the 2016 peoples uprising, whereas their detention orders were quashed by the court of law,” he said.
Strongly condemning the “ruthless attitude” towards the “prisoners of conscience” belonging to Jammu and Kashmir, APHC (G) chairman said that “even the despotic rulers of the primitive age used to display their kindness by releasing the prisoners on the religious festivals to make possible share the jubilant occasion with their children”.
He hailed the steadfastness and determination of “prisoners of conscience” languishing in different jails, police stations and interrogation centres, Geelani saluted the valuable sacrifices of Shabir Ahmad Shah, Asiya Andrabi, Fahmeedah Sofi, Naheedah Nasreen, Peer Saifullah, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Raja Meraj-ud-Din Kalwal, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Shahid-ul-Islam, Farooq Ahmad Dar, Shahid Yousaf, Zahoor Ahmad Watali, Dr. Gh. Meanwhile, Geelani expressed his deep grief over the demise of Ghulam Hassan Zia, father-in-law of Javed Malik, senior editor Greater Kashmir.
