National hockey player found dead in Bhakra canal

A 21-year-old national-level hockey player, Sumandeep Kaur, has reportedly taken her life by jumping into the Bhakra Canal following a tiff with her brother and sister-in-law, police said.

 A case has been registered against the brother and sister-in-law on the father's complaint.

Jaspal Singh told the police that his daughter, Sumandeep, was studying MA in Punjab University. She was distressed by the ill-treatment meted out to her by his son Vikramjit Singh and his wife Pinky.

The police said her bother has been arrested while they are on the lookout for Pinky.

They have recovered the body.
