NIA raids 21 locations across 6 regions in ISIS-linked terror conspiracy case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has carried out extensive searches at 21 locations across five states and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in connection with a terror conspiracy case linked to ISIS and other proscribed organisations, officials said on Tuesday.

The coordinated raids were conducted on Monday in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Jammu and Kashmir. According to the agency, several mobile phones, digital devices, and incriminating documents were seized during the operation.

The case stems from the arrest of Akhlathur alias Mohammed Akhlque Mujahid earlier this year by the Kayar police in Tamil Nadu’s Chengalpattu district. The NIA formally took over the investigation in June.

According to the probe agency, Mujahid was allegedly conspiring with others to carry out terrorist activities in India and had established links with operatives in Pakistan and Syria.

“He was found to have connections with multiple entities in Pakistan and Syria,” the NIA said in its statement, adding that the conspiracy was designed to “gather men and material support to wage jihad against India by aligning with banned terrorist organisations.”

Investigators revealed that the accused maintained regular contact with terror groups through various social media platforms, strengthening suspicions of a wider network attempting to radicalize and mobilize individuals for violent activities.

The NIA has said further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend others involved in the conspiracy.(KINS)
