Srinagar: Special Judge, Anticorruption Kashmir has awarded One Year sentence to a police officer on corruption charges. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs ten thousand to the convict.

The convict Abdul Majeed Wani was then Assistant Sub Inspector at police station Nagam when he demanded bribe from complainant Ghulam Hasan Khan to favour him in a case related to land dispute. Khan paid the bribe but filed a case against the police officer in Vigilance Organization Kashmir.

Special Judge, Anticorruption Kashmir RN Watal in his judgment said that the genesis of this case is another example of the corrupt practice adopted by a police officer who though presumed to prevent the crime in society, has committed the same himself. (CNS)
