More than 2,000 Shri Amarnath Yatra pilgrims left Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu for the cave shrine in South Kashmir Himalayas amid rain on Wednesday.
According to officials, a group of 2,051 pilgrims departed for the Baltal base camp in a convoy of 82 vehicles under elaborate security arrangements.
No convoy was dispatched for the Pahalgam route, they said.
The annual pilgrimage is scheduled to conclude on August 28, coinciding with the festival of Raksha Bandhan.
So far, more than 4 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance at the holy cave shrine.
The yatra was suspended on July 19 as a precautionary measure following a weather advisory issued for Jammu and Kashmir, particularly for the twin pilgrimage routes of Pahalgam and Baltal leading to the holy cave shrine. The pilgrimage resumed on July 25.
