Peoples Democratic Party is planning to hold a rally on the fourth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370.

The party on Thursday said that it has sought a permission from the district magistrate Srinagar for holding the event at Sher-e-Kashmir Park in Srinagar.

PDP leader Mohammad Iqbal Trumboo said the BJP is organizing several events to celebrate the abrogation of Article 370.

“ We have come to know that the district administration here has given them permission for holding the events including a marathon. Our party has also sought permission for the event on August 5 at Sher-e-Kashmir Park in Srinagar,” Trumboo told reporters in Srinagar.

On August 5, 2019, the Narendra Modi government revoked Article 370 of the constitution that bestowed special status Jammu and Kashmir and the erstwhile state was downgraded into union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

The PDP leader said while the BJP has a right to express themselves to celebrate the abrogation , the party has also a right in the democracy to express their views.

“India is a democratic country and I am hopeful that when the administration has granted permission to BJP to hold events on Saturday, the PDP too will also be granted permission,” he said.

He said PDP is working hard for the restoration of Articles 370 and 35A.

A five-judge constitution bench, headed by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud started hearing a batch of petitions challenging the reading down of Article 370 from Wednesday.
