PM calls for ‘Team India’ approach as States, Centre step up coordination amid global disruptions

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday chaired a high-level meeting with Chief Ministers to review the national situation amid global disruptions, asserting that reforms undertaken in recent years have strengthened India’s economic and supply systems and are now yielding tangible benefits.

The Prime Minister stressed the need for constant engagement with industry and MSMEs, noting that their stability is crucial for protecting production and employment.

“Measures undertaken in recent years to strengthen India’s economic and supply systems are proving beneficial in the current context,” he said, calling for continued dialogue with key stakeholders to address emerging challenges.

Underscoring the importance of strong institutional coordination, he instructed States to ensure seamless cooperation across administrative levels.

He emphasised “the need for robust coordination mechanisms at all levels, including regular reviews at the level of Chief Secretaries and continuous monitoring at the district level” to enable swift responses to evolving situations.

The Prime Minister also urged a dual approach combining immediate action with long-term resilience-building. Highlighting the urgency of diversifying energy sources, he asked states to intensify efforts in “promoting alternative energy sources such as biofuels, solar energy, GOBARdhan initiative, electric mobility,” and to expand piped natural gas networks.

He further called for “enhancing domestic exploration of oil and natural gas, with active cooperation from States.”

Reaffirming that the challenge must be met collectively, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that the nation would overcome the crisis through unified action.

He reiterated that addressing the situation is “a shared responsibility” and said he was confident that, working together as “Team India,” the country would successfully navigate the current circumstances.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh briefed the meeting on the government’s efforts to stabilise supply conditions, noting that the Centre had taken proactive measures to safeguard citizens.

He pointed to initiatives such as ensuring timely LPG availability and the recent fuel excise duty cut, stating that the government has been “taking positive steps such as ensuring timely availability of LPG and reducing the excise duties on petrol and diesel.”

He emphasised that collective action by “all states, UTs and the Centre” is essential to effectively address the ongoing situation.

Cabinet Secretary T V Somanathan delivered a detailed presentation outlining the current status and recommendations for states to strengthen preparedness and response capacities.

Chief Ministers across states welcomed the Centre’s interventions, praising the Prime Minister’s diplomatic outreach and domestic measures.

They expressed appreciation for the steps taken to ensure uninterrupted supply chains, with many acknowledging that the situation “remains stable, with adequate availability of petrol, diesel and LPG” and robust monitoring mechanisms in place.

They also widely endorsed the excise duty reduction, noting that it would “provide significant relief to citizens amid global uncertainties.”

States further welcomed the decision to increase commercial LPG allocations to 70 per cent of pre-crisis levels, up from the earlier 50 per cent, calling it a timely and necessary move.

Reaffirming their commitment to nationwide coordination, the Chief Ministers stressed that they would continue working closely with the Centre to manage the evolving scenario and safeguard citizen welfare.
