Prime Minister Narendra Modi today expressed deep sorrow over the tragic bus fire incident in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, and extended his thoughts to the affected families.
“Distressed by the loss of lives due to a mishap in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. My thoughts are with the affected people and their families during this difficult time. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured,” PM Modi said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
The devastating bus accident, which occurred late yesterday, claimed the lives of at least 20 people and left 16 others injured. The bus, which was travelling from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur, caught fire near Thaiyat village, sparking a massive rescue operation.
The Prime Minister announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased person. Additionally, the injured will receive Rs 50,000 each.
Rescue operations were swiftly carried out by local authorities and emergency services. The injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment, with some being referred to Jodhpur for advanced care.
Preliminary reports suggest that a short circuit may have caused the fire. A high-level probe has been ordered to investigate the incident.
