Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore sub district on Thursday conducted searches in Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act case against banned Tehreek-e-Hurriyat. which was founded by separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani in 2004.
Police said the searches were conducted as part of the ongoing investigation of a case registered in 2024 under Sections 10 and 13 of the UAPA.
The searches were carried out at the residential houses and premises of Zaffar Islam alias Yadullah Peer of Dangerpora; Lateef Ahmad Kaloo Arampora and Mohammad Ashraf Malik of Tawheed Bagh
“The searches were conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, after obtaining valid search warrants from the Court of Special Judge UAPA, Sopore,” police said.
During the operation, relevant material and electronic devices were examined, and further procedures as mandated by law are being undertaken as part of the continuing investigation, they added.
Tehreek-e-Hurriyat was banned by the Centre as an unlawful organisation in 2023. The separatist group has been virtually defunct after the passing of Geelani in 2o21 and the ban.
