Police in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir in coordination with the civil administration, demolished illegally constructed properties worth crores on state land in a major crackdown on drug trafficking.
Police said during the operation, multiple structures raised on state land at estate Sangam along National Highway were demolished.
These structures were being used as roadside eateries (dabbas/restaurants) and were found to be linked with persons involved in NDPS Act cases, police said.
Among the demolished properties was ‘Kashmir Restaurant (Dabba)’, owned by Gul Mohammad Mir and Bashir Ahmad Mir, residents of Donipora Sangam. Police said both are named in separate NDPS cases registered at police station Bijbehara.
Another structure, ‘Taj Restaurant (Dabba)’, belonged to Mohammad Maqbool Mir and his sons Aijaz Ahmad and Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Mir, also residents of Donipora Sangam, who are likewise involved in an NDPS case.
A third structure, ‘MIR Restaurant’, owned by their brother Amma Mir and located between the two establishments, was also demolished during the operation.
“All these structures were found to have been illegally erected on state land without authorization. The demolition was carried out strictly as per legal procedures, reinforcing the commitment of Anantnag police to act firmly against drug peddlers and unlawful encroachments,” police said.
Following the launch of the 100-day Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan by J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, police have intensified their crackdown on drug peddlers across the union Territory.
Raids have been conducted on suspected peddlers, with assets attached and fresh cases registered under the NDPS Act. Police, in coordination with drug control authorities, have also been inspecting medical shops to curb the sale of illegal and scheduled drugs.
