Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has called Iran to prevent new armed confrontation in the region while reaffirming Russia’s continued readiness to assist in resolving the crisis in the Middle East, which has no military solution.
During a telephonic conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Lavrov emphasised the importance of preventing a relapse into armed confrontation in the Middle East, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
“On April 13, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Viktorovich Lavrov held a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi,” the ministry said. “Sergey Viktorovich Lavrov emphasised the importance of preventing a relapse into armed confrontation (in the region).”
He told Araghchi that Russia welcomed the continued commitment to continuing diplomatic efforts and finding solutions that would address the root causes of the conflict and achieve long-term stabilisation in the Middle East, taking into account the legitimate interests of the Islamic Republic of Iran and its neighbours.
