School summer vacation in J&K extended till July 26

Date:

Amid continued heavy rainfall and adverse weather forecast, the government on Tuesday extended the summer vacation in all schools across the Kashmir division and winter zones of Jammu division by three days.

Announcing the decision, Education Minister Sakina Itoo said the vacation for all government and recognised private schools has been extended till July 26, and schools will now reopen on Monday.

“Keeping the safety and well-being of students, teachers, and their families as our foremost priority, the summer vacation for all Government and recognized private schools in the Kashmir Division and Winter Zones of Jammu Division is hereby extended up to 26th July,” Itoo said in a statement.

She urged people to remain vigilant and follow advisories issued by the concerned authorities in view of the expected weather conditions.

The schools were earlier scheduled to reopen on July 20, but the government extended vacation till July 22.

The extension comes as the Meteorological Department has predicted a spell of widespread rain across Jammu and Kashmir over the next few days, raising the possibility of heavy rainfall, flash floods, landslides and waterlogging in vulnerable areas.
