Shah Rukh Khan classics to debut in inflatable cinema at IFFI

For the first time, three Shah Rukh Khan films will be screened in an inflatable cinema format as part of the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), according to Variety.

The National Film Development Corporation and the Entertainment Society of Goa are partnering again with mobile digital theatre company PictureTime Digiplex for the festival’s inflatable cinema initiative, running from November 20–28 across Goa.

This year, ‘Chak De! India, Darr, and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ will make their inflatable theatre debuts.

The festival lineup spans four categories: Inspirational Films, Indian Panorama Classics, Nostalgia, and Children’s Cinema. Contemporary selections include Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 12th Fail, Malayalam hit Manjummel Boys, Rajkummar Rao’s Srikanth, Rani Mukerji’s Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway, and Sooraj Barjatya’s Uunchai, as per Variety.

Classic titles on display feature Satyajit Ray’s Shatranj Ke Khilari, Mira Nair’s Salaam Bombay!, Anup Singh’s Qissa, Vijay Anand’s Teesri Manzil, and Yash Chopra’s Chandni and Kala Patthar.

Daily children’s screenings will include ‘Kaphal: Wild Berries’, Gattu, Banarasi Jasoos, The Prince and the Crown of Stone, and Naal 2.

PictureTime will set up its inflatable theatre at Kala Academy, one of IFFI’s main venues, with additional open-air screenings at various locations across North and South Goa to allow wider access for local audiences.

“This year’s programming — from Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic classics to contemporary hits like 12th Fail and Manjummel Boys — celebrates the diversity and cultural richness of Indian cinema,” said Sushil Chaudhary, founder and CEO of PictureTime Digiplex, as stated by Variety.

“We are particularly excited about the screenings curated for children and students, as nurturing early audiences is crucial for the future of film appreciation.”

The Kala Academy inflatable theatre is expected to host over 1,000 visitors daily, including international delegates, film professionals, student groups, and cinema enthusiasts, while open-air screenings across Goa are projected to attract an additional 300–400 viewers per site each day.

PictureTime’s partnership with IFFI dates back to 2017, when the company organized the Bioscope Village at the festival.
