Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday said the situation in Bangladesh was a lesson for everyone, especially India where unemployment and inflation was rising every day.

“You have a huge youth population and you try to ignore them and when inflation and unemployment hit them, situations like these (Bangladesh) arise,” Mufti told reporters in Srinagar.

The former Chief Minister said youth of India are feeling increasingly marginalized and frustrated due to the unemployment and inflation.

“When you push youth to the wall and they feel dejected from all sides, such ( Bangladesh-like) situations can emerge,” She said.

The former CM criticized the union government, claiming, they have failed to generate sufficient employment opportunities and control inflation.

Mufti said that while the reservation is a good thing for the weaker sections, it must be proportionate to the population.

“While the reservation is good, the candidates from the open category should not feel injustice.. There is a lesson from Bangladesh that dictatorship doesn’t last long. When you bring policies and laws that are anti-people and a threshold of patience gets breached, you have to escape like Sheikh Hasina,” she said.

Mehooba said that in Jammu & Kashmir the youths have plenty of issues who feel helpless just like what happened in Bangladesh.

“..I hope the situation of Bangladesh doesn’t replicate here,” she said.
