Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Chief Tariq Hameed Karra on Tuesday said statehood is not just a symbolic demand but a foundation for responsible and empowered governance.

The PCC Chief Karra who is currently undertaking his public outreach programme to his central Shalteng Assembly constituency said without full statehood, decision-making powers remain restricted, limiting our capacity to address pressing issues such as unemployment, development, business, education, and healthcare reforms.

Karra emphasized that “statehood is not just a symbolic demand; it’s the foundation for responsive and empowered governance”.

He stated, “Our Prime Minister, Home Minister, and the Central Government have made repeated promises of statehood restoration-on the floor of Parliament, in public rallies, and especially during election campaigns. It’s time to move beyond promises and fulfill these commitments through decisive action.”

Karra expressed deep gratitude to voters and supporters as he listened attentively to their aspirations, concerns, and the pressing needs of the community during the visit.

The interaction focused on the restoration of full statehood for Jammu and Kashmir as the foundation of empowered governance and responsive administration, a statement of the JKPCC said.

The Congress leader elaborated on the key benefits of full statehood for the welfare and progress of Jammu and Kashmir stating that it would enable the local government to make impactful and swift decisions that directly address citizens’ needs.

“Full statehood is vital for job creation and economic resilience. Restoring statehood will empower the local government to generate local employment in government and public sectors, addressing youth unemployment and creating avenues for dignified jobs in both established and emerging industries”, he said.

Karra said the full statehood would facilitate the construction of modern infrastructure and reforms that prepare students for competitive exams and ensure accessible healthcare for all.
