Thousands of Shia mourners on Friday participated in the traditional Youm-e-Ashura procession in Srinagar, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and his companions at Karbala.
The procession witnessed devotees carrying religious banners, raising religious slogans, and participating in mourning rituals as it passed through the old city amid elaborate security and administrative arrangements.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha joined the Zuljinah procession at Zadibal, where he paid tributes to Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions, describing their supreme sacrifice for peace, justice, love and compassion as an eternal guide for humanity.

The society must draw inspiration from his noble life and virtues, walking the righteous path of truth, justice, and humanity,” the Lieutenant Governor said. He also served refreshments among the mourners.

During his visit, the Chief Minister interacted with mourners and volunteers engaged in facilitating the observance of Youm-e-Ashura and appreciated their spirit of service and devotion. Later, he visited the revered shrine of Mir Shamsu-din Araqi (RA) at Zadibal, where he offered Fateha and prayed for peace, harmony and the well-being of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Stringent security measures were in place to ensure peaceful procession.
