District Mineral Officer (DMO) Kulgam Murtaza Bashir on Tuesday said that three JCB machines were impounded yesterday night in Ashmuji area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district after being found involved in illegal mining.

As per the news agency CNS, the DMO Kulgam said that a meeting was conducted under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Kulgam on the 5th of February during which nine vulnerable illegal mining spots were declared along the Vishu river.

“Last night we went to the Ashmuji area where around 5-6 JCB machines were found involved in illegal mining among whom three were seized,” the DMO said.

He said that JCB machines were seized along with screening tools and would lodge an FIR against the offenders besides an imposition of a penalty.

“All the vehicles after seizure were handed over to police and shall remain in their custody till realisation of penalty,” he added.

DMO Kulgam also reiterated that they would act tough against persons found involved in illegal mining.
