US President Donald Trump has claimed the US is holding talks with Iran both directly and indirectly.

“We are negotiating with them directly and indirectly,” he told reporters, referring to the talks between Washington and Tehran.

Trump added that the two sides were discussing very important issues during the meetings.

He claimed that Iran has mostly agreed to the US peace plan, but the US wants to make additional demands on Tehran.

On February 28, the US and Israel began striking targets in Iran. Tehran is carrying out retaliatory strikes on Israeli territory, as well as on US military facilities in the Middle East.

The escalation around Iran has led to the effective blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for oil and liquefied natural gas supplies from the Persian Gulf to global markets, and has impacted oil exports and production in the region. The blockade has led to rising fuel prices in most countries worldwide.
