Amid the ongoing Budget Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly, two Congress MLAs, Kamalaksha Dey Purkayastha and Basanta Das, on Wednesday declared their support for the BJP-led state government.
Earlier, two Congress MLAs, Shashikant Das and Siddique Ahmed, had extended support to the BJP government. Both the Congress MLAs have been suspended from the party.
Addressed to the media, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that MLAs Kamalaksha Purkayastha and Basanta Das were attracted to the BJP and had come forward to support all the works of the central and state governments.
Both Congress MLAs have decided to support the pro-people policies of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he added.
Many Congress MLAs are in touch with him in the current situation, he added.
Rahul Gandhi had started the Bharat Jodo Yatra, but now it has become the Congress Todo Yatra, he said.
“Out of 25 MLAs of the Assam Congress, so far, 4 MLAs, including Shri Shashi Kant Das and Siddique Ahmed, have joined our Vikas Yatra. The remaining 21 MLAs will also join us soon,” Sarma said on X (formally Twitter).
