Asserting that a close synergy was demonstrated with the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Special Operation Group (SOG), bolstered by local intelligence and community assistance, the Army on Tuesday said that Unmanned ground vehicles, surveillance drones helped in eliminating hardcore terrorists.
In a nearly more than 24 hours long operation, the security forces have eliminated all three hardcore terrorists in a fierce fire-fight close to the Line of Control in the Sunderbani sector of Akhnoor in Jammu.
“The Indian Army successfully thwarted a terror ambush in the dense forests of Battal, Jammu resulting in the elimination of three terrorists,” Major General Sameer Srivastava, GOC 10 RAPID told reporters at a press conference in Akhnoor.
He was flanked by DIG Jammu-Kathua Shiv Kumar Sharma and Brig Kapil Taneja, Commander, 28 Infantry Brigade.
The GOC said that in the pre-dawn hours, terrorists ambushed an army convoy, prompting a swift and precise response from the troops, adding, “There were no casualties among the convoy persons, as troops quickly forced the attackers to retreat.”
Troops maintained comprehensive domination of the area, operating under challenging conditions during the night, he said, and added that Special Forces were mobilized promptly to reinforce the cordon around the fleeing militants.
“Advanced technology, including night surveillance devices, unmanned ground vehicles, and surveillance drones ensured real-time tracking and prevented potential escapes,” said the GOC and added, “Tragically, an Army Dog, Phantom sustained fatal injuries during the operation, underscoring the risk involved for all persons engaged in counter-terrorist operation.”
He said that the operation underscores the Indian Army’s commitment to peace and stability in the region, with enhanced security measures and local outreach ensuring continuous stability.
He also cleared, “we also want to dispel some rumours going around on Social Media about the use of BMPs in the operation. The hardened vehicles were used to close in with the trapped terrorists.”
“We want to also emphasize that the Indian Army is a professional force and no disrespect to the mortal remains of the slain terrorist has been carried out,” the GOC said.
