Iranian authorities said that a missile strike hit areas near a cancer hospital in Ahvaz, southwestern Iran, following the announcement by the US Central Command (CENTCOM) of a second wave of strikes targeting Iranian military capabilities linked to alleged threats against maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
The renewed explosions were carried out in at least five Iranian cities on Wednesday night as the US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) announced more strikes across Iran.
Iranian media reported several explosions in the cities of Ahvaz and Chabahar in the country’s south.
The Mehr News Agency said US strikes hit near a children’s cancer hospital in Ahvaz, triggering its evacuation.
US projectiles also struck an area near the southern port city of Bandar Abbas, according to state news agency IRNA.
Another US projectile exploded near the southeastern city of Rask, the Tasnim news agency said.
Two blasts were also heard in the city of Konarak.
Hossein Kermanpour, head of the Public Relations and Information Center at Iran’s Ministry of Health and Medical Education, said the strike occurred near Boghayi Hospital 2, a facility that provides treatment for cancer patients.
In a post on X, Kermanpour said that nearby areas had been struck by missiles, causing some patients and their attendants to leave the hospital due to the loud explosions and intense tremors. He added that only critically ill patients remained at the facility.
Iranian state broadcaster Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) also reported damage to an industrial facility in Qeshm, located in Hormozgan province. Citing a statement from the Hormozgan Governor, IRIB said an attack on part of the Souza fish-powder factory caused limited damage, with no injuries reported as the affected area was unoccupied.
The reports came hours after CENTCOM announced that US forces had carried out a second wave of strikes against Iran, stating that the operation targeted military capabilities allegedly being used to threaten vessels operating in the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) spokesperson Brigadier General Hossein Mohammadi said Iran would continue its military response. He claimed that Tehran’s current operations were focused on US military infrastructure in the region and warned that further actions would follow.
“The enemy should not assume it can continue the current equation of the battle and turn the war into one of attrition,” Mohammadi said in a post on X, adding that Iran’s operations were aimed at countering US offensive capabilities in the region.
