Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district arrested two alleged terror associates, including a woman, and recovered arms, ammunition and Rs 8.4 lakh in cash during a late-evening operation.

Police said acting on specific intelligence, a police team from Ganderbal in coordination with the Special Operations Group (SOG) intercepted a load carrier during naka checking near Gundrehman Bridge. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of one Chinese pistol, one pistol magazine, four pistol rounds, two hand grenades and cash amounting to Rs 8,40,500.

The arrested accused were identified as Ghulam Nabi Mir of Hajin, Bandipora and Shabnum Nazir of Shalabugh, Ganderbal.

Police said a case under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Arms Act was registered at police station Ganderbal.

“Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source, motive, and possible linkages related to the recovered arms, ammunition, and cash,” police said.

Meanwhile, police in Ganderbal have issued a public advisory informing citizens that, as per the directions of the District Magistrate, Ganderbal, the use of Virtual Private Network (VPN) Services has been temporarily restricted across the district with immediate effect.

Police said the decision has been taken as a precautionary and preventive measure in the interest of public safety, cyber security, and maintenance of law and order. The restriction aims to prevent any potential misuse of VPN services that could obstruct lawful monitoring mechanisms or pose risks to overall security.

Several districts in Kashmir have already banned VPN services.(JKNS)
